Diabetes is a disease in which diet management has a very important role to play to keep the blood glucose levels in control. The right amount of food and the right quality of food are supposed to be solution to all diabetic problems For instance, people should have the food according to their body needs and sugar level in the blood. Those who have higher levels should be on a very strict diet with no sweets and fats and those who have lesser and controlled sugar levels can go for some sweets and fats.

A calorie based diet depends and varies for men and woman, their age, and level of physical activity. For example, a 1200 calorie diet is recommended for a small sized woman who exercises, a medium sized woman who does not exercise much and for those women who are small to medium in size and have extra fat and want to lose weight, they can go for the diet which includes;

  •   6 servings of starches which include potatoes, bread, cereals, rice, pasta e
  • 2 servings of milk and yogurt which should be skimmed and without additional flavors
  • 3 vegetables, mainly dark green and deep yellow in color, like spinach, broccoli, carrot, etc
  • 2 fruits, mainly citrus and whole fruit instead of juices due to the fiber content
  • 2 meat or its substitutes with all the necessary fat removed from it, preferably boiled, baked or roasted
  •  Up to 3 fats such as sweets

This is all the diet that adds up to 1200 calorie to be taken throughout the day and can be distributed into breakfast, lunch and dinner according to one’s needs and tastes, however, it is recommended to have the same amount at the same time daily for better results. A dietician is still required to be consulted as this is just a basic idea provided.
