Diabeties, a group of disorders of the human
body to produce enough insulin to regulate the breakdown of the blood
sugar in the human body, is a disease that can prove to be very fatal,
at times. It is normally categorized in two main and one subcategory–
Type I, Type II diabeties and Gestational diabeties.
There are numerous factors which lead to diabeties but some of
the major ones are listed below:
a) Heredity/ Genetic causes: Though it hasn't been proved beyond
doubt, but our genes have a major role to play in most diseases,
diabeties being one of them. A person has a 20 % chance of inheriting
diabeties if both of his parents have the disorder already. While he
has only 2 to 4 % chances of acquiring the disease if only one of the
parents has it.
b) Infections: Some viral infections alter the insulin producing
Beta cells which make it impossible for the human body to recognize it
as its own, thus attacking and destroying them.
c) Food: Its not a crime to eat or drink foods containing a huge
amount of sugar as long as your body is producing the requisite amount
of insulin. It is only when there is scarcity of insulin in the body
that this mechanism becomes a cause of diabeties.
d) Weight/Age: Being overweight and being above 40 are some of the
important causes of type II diabeties.
Some of the other factors are- lack of exercise, pregnancy, fatigue,
blurry vision, thirst, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels.
