Although hypoglycemia can affect even non diabetic patients, it is usually diabetic patients that are prone to this condition. A diabetic patient has more chances of having an attack of hypoglycemia because diabetic patients become too conscious of their carbohydrate consumption and try to avoid all things that contain carbohydrates. As a matter of fact, a person suffering from diabetes need not boycott carbohydrates. Carbohydrate is a need of the body even if a person is diabetic and it must be taken in a limited amount. Large time gaps between meals also result in low blood sugar. Diabetics are usually sensitive to such situations and should be very careful about their meal timings. Hunger: Sudden feeling of hunger and sickness. This is primarily on account of low blood sugar. As a natural response the body wants to eat and have nourishment. Nervousness: Low blood sugar adversely affects the nervous system and this shows up in the hypoglycemic patient becoming nervous and disoriented. Shakiness: The patient experiences uncontrollable shaking of the body. Perspiration: Perspiration occurs without any cause. Dizziness: On account of low blood sugar, the patient becomes weak and feels dizzy. The patient also finds difficulty in speaking and is overcome by an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion. The symptoms of hypoglycemia also occur in other ailments. As a result it is not very easy to determine if a person is suffering from hypoglycemia. The best option is to visit a doctor and obtain informed medical opinion.
