Diabetes is not only common in human beings but it happens to cats also. Feline diabetes, though common is a complex disorder. It happens in cats when they do not produce sufficient insulin. It can also happen when the cat does not respond to the insulin content in its body.

Feline diabetes happens when it does not allow the body to use the blood sugar in a proper way and is a similar problem like diabetes in humans.. This results in high levels of blood sugar in the body of the cat. It has been observed that diabetic cats have sugar content in the urine and pass urine in excess and frequently. They have excess thirst as compared to the normal cats.

Feline cats also tend to lose excess weight. The reason is the lack of production of insulin in their body. Despite the fact that feline cats have high levels of appetite, they still lose weight and it becomes a major problem for the cat. Once inflicted by the diabetes, it leads to major complicated problems. The major complications are the loss of appetite, weakness and dehydration which becomes a serious cause of worry for the owners of the cats.

Feline diabetes affects cats of all the age groups and also affects the cats irrespective of their color and sex. Generally this diabetes occurs in the old cats but does not care about the breed of the cat.. Even the obese cats are not spared. However, it may be interesting to note that the male cats are more prone to feline diabetes than the female counterparts. However, the exact cause of feline diabetes is yet to be known.

The possible causes of the feline diabetes are the genetic predisposition, hormonal imbalances and the disorders in the pancreas of the cat. Cats show some signs of feline diabetes at the early stages. The cats may seem to be healthy and active at the initial stage but should not be taken lightly. The cat develops conditions of poor skin and may also develop unhealthy hair.
