Severe Insulin Resistance

Insulin hormone is produced by the beta cells. The insulin is produced in the pancreas to do many functions within the body. The prime action of insulin is directed at metabolism (control) of carbohydrates (sugars and starches), lipids (fats) and proteins. Severe insulin resistance is a condition in which the cells of the body become resistant to the effects of insulin, i.e. the normal response to a given amount of insulin is reduced. Type 2 diabetes is the type of diabetes that occurs in the later stage of life. Severe insulin resistance precedes the development of type 2 diabetes, sometimes by years.
