Type II diabetes is referred to as adult onset diabetes mellitus or non-insulin dependent diabetes. As the number of patients suffering from diabetes symptoms is staggering, one needs to pay attention to diabetes diet and exercise. The main focal point of type II diabetes is weight control, because almost 90 % of people who have this disease, are overweight. Meal planning should include having healthy foods and eating them in right amount, at the right time. A type 2 diabetic patient should follow type II diabetes diet food mentioned below:

* Dietary fat should be reduced. Calories from saturated fat should not be more than 7 % to 10 %. The amount of trans-unsaturated fats should be minimized.

* Protein intake should contain 15 % to 20 % of total calories. Legumes, non-fat dairy products, skinless poultry, fish and lean meats are low in fat. To maintain cholesterol in range, 6 ounces of protein is recommended.

* Carbohydrate has to come from grain breads or pasta, cereals, brown rice, fruits, beans and vegetables. Dietary fiber should also be included in the meal plan.

Diet affects our long term health, hence we should make wise food choices. Diabetes is basically a metabolic disorder and it affects the way we derive energy from our food.
