Most of the time medicines and insulin
injections just don't provide relief from chronic diseases like diabetes
but there are some alternative treatments that have worked for some
people for generations like acupuncture, biofeedback, guided imagery,
and vitamin and mineral supplementation along with many natural herbs.
These alternative treatments show some positive results which cannot be
denied.
Some of the alternative results are
shown below:
a) Acupuncture: Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese science which
deals with pressure points in the body. It has proven quite effective
in most chronic diseases like diabetes. Though it does not fully cure,
it makes it more bearable.
b) Biofeedback: Biofeedback helps a person understand his body and
his tolerance for pain and it helps by relaxing and reducing the
stress thus making it bearable.
c) Guided Imagery: It's a relaxation technique in which a person
thinks of peaceful mental images and thus tunes out the pain he is
suffering from because of chronic diseases like diabetes.
d) Mineral Supplementation: Some of the minerals that have had
some effect on diabetes over the years are- Chromium, Magnesium and
Vanadium. Chromium helps in increasing the glucose tolerance factor,
which in turn helps insulin improve its action. Research has shown
that a deficiency in magnesium may cause the blood sugar level in Type
II diabetes to rise and it also increases the resistance to Insulin.
Vanadium increases Insulin sensitivity and helps in keeping control of
the blood sugar level in both types of diabetes.
e) Herbal Treatments: One herb that has shown promise in the
treatment of diabetes is called mai men dong or ophiopogon. It can
potentially stimulate regeneration of cells in the Islets of
Langerhans in the pancreas in effect potentially reversing diabetes.
Another Chinese herb that shows promise for people with high blood
sugar is tian hua fen or trichosanthis which has shown to reduce blood
sugar levels in diabetic patients. Other commonly used herbs in
diabetes research include astragalus and Chinese wild yam. An Asian
vegetable called bittermelon is also known for its property of
reducing blood sugar level in the body.
Many of these alternative treatments have been used
by diabetics for centuries and they help in reducing the chronic pain of
diabetes and make living easier for the ones who have to endure it.
