Know About Some Drugs That Cure Diabetes
Diabetes is a chronic illness in which the glucose formed by food does not reach cells where it belongs, rather remains in the blood. This makes the blood glucose levels high which again differs from body to body. The treatment is based on the level of blood glucose levels.

Various medicines are available in the market suggested by the physician. But, mainly all the recommended medicines belong to the members of five main drugs which work in their own different ways though they have the same motive to bring down the blood glucose levels.

The five main drugs are:

SULFONYLUREAS – it helps to stimulate the beta cells of the pancreas from where insulin is released to make more insulin to meet the requirement. The pills should be taken 1-2 times before meals and have some side effects also.

MEGLITINIDES – it has the same function as the sulfonylurea, but differs, as some doctors prefer it according to choice.

BIGUANIDES – it has the function to lower down the blood glucose levels, and also helps to make the muscle tissues more resistant towards absorbing the glucose. Pills can be taken two times in a day, but can lead to some side effects such as diarrhea. Thus, they should be taken along with food.

THIAZOLIDINEDIONES – this drug has rare side effects on the liver and makes insulin work better in muscle and fat by reducing glucose formation in liver. Can be taken two times a day and is followed by regular blood tests.

ALPHA-GLUCOSIDASE INHIBITORS – it helps to block the breakdown of starch and sugar and lowers the blood glucose levels. Pills should be taken with the first bite of the meal, and can be followed by some side effects such as diarrhea and gas.

Many times just one type of drug may not be sufficient to treat diabetes. It could be a combination of two drugs and drugs combined with insulin, exercises, and healthy diet plan. But, these pills work only for those who suffer from Type 2 diabetes.
