As per Dr Beer of France, individuals with a blood sugar level between 100 to 125 may carry a five times greater risk of heart attacks than individuals who have a fasting serum glucose lower than 100. This was revealed at the meeting of the American college of Cardiology in the year 2005. Elevated fasting blood sugar levels may contribute to the risk of heart attacks to a greater extent than high cholesterol. A large percentage of the American population, as much as 35% are overweight because of eating foods based on pasta, sugary beverages, white flour and other refined carbohydrates. As a result, this population is at the risk of heart attacks not just because of high cholesterol levels but also because of high levels of fasting blood sugar. Nuts are a rich source of vitamins, minerals and trace elements and also are a healthy source of nutrition for people who are looking for a quick snack. The only thing to be careful about nuts is to have them in moderation and in a dry roasted form, as nuts are very high in calories. Related Articles
