|
Coming to the types of these ulcers, leg ulcers may be classified into three types depending on the portion of the leg which is wounded, but here we are talking about the third type of ulcer which is known as the Neurotrophic or diabetic leg ulcer. In this type of ulcer, the increased pressure points of the feet are affected. It primarily occurs to those suffering from diabetes but can also happen to those who suffer from impaired sensation of feet. As a precautionary measure, the patient of diabetic leg ulcer should wear clean and appropriate shoes, keep his feet clean, should never walk bare footed and should avoid any kind of pressure or weight on the infected area. The wound should be kept clean with the help of orthotic devices and the infected tissues should be removed regularly for proper and fast healing. To prevent one self from aggravating the problem, one should take extra measures such as exercises, weight management, quit smoking, control diabetes and cholesterol, limit sodium intake and follow a regimen of extra skin and foot care, but keeping diabetes in control is most important.
