About 90 to 95 percent of people with diabetes
have diabetes type 2. This type of diabetes is related with old age,
family history, obesity, physical inactivity, food habits and ethnicity.

The number of
patients suffering from diabetes symptoms is staggering. One needs to
pay attention to diabetes diet and exercise. For diabetes cure, th
patient should keep a check on symptoms of diabetes and take diabetes
medication accordingly, for diabetes management.
The main focal
point of type 2 diabetes is weight control, because almost 90 % of
people who have this disease are overweight. Meal planning should
include having healthy foods and eating the right amount at the right
time. A type 2 diabetic patient should follow diabetic type II diet
program.
A) Dietary fat should be reduced. Calories from saturated fat should not
be more than 7 % to 10 %. The amount of trans-unsaturated fats should
be minimized.
B) Protein intake should contain 15 % to 20 % of total calories. Choices
such as legumes, non-fat dairy products, skinless poultry, fish and
lean meats are low in fat. To keep the cholesterol in range, 6 ounces
of protein per day is recommended.
C) Carbohydrate has to come from whole grain breads or cereals, pasta,
brown rice, beans, fruits and vegetables. Dietary fiber should also be
included in the meal plan.
A prescribed diet consists of:
1) Always eat food with less fat, saturated fat and cholesterol.
2) Always maintain a healthy weight.
3) Don't take excessive sugar in the diet. Restrict yourself to
artificial sweeteners.
4) Always take fiber rich food like fruits, vegetables and whole grains.
5) Do not drink alcohol. If you do, do it in moderation.
6) Don't use excessive salt.
