The benefits of eating fish are well known and not much evidence is needed to prove that it helps the kidneys and numerous other organs during diabetes. Diabetics are required to curb the amount of protein they consume in order to delay the progression of kidney disease. Let's get it understood in steps.

The unique nutrient composition of fish prevents kidney damage by enhancing blood sugar control or improving lipid profiles. The most beneficial ones are the "oily" fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel. Eating these fish at least two times a week can reduce kidney disease by as much as 75%. The American Journal of Kidney Diseases has recently published a report to this effect. They say that it's the quality and not the quantity of the protein that matters.

Two servings of fish also provide cardio-protective effects and reduce risk of coronary events. With so much of goodness, fish is definitely one of the most popular dishes with diabetics around the world.
