Exercise is a must for everyone, especially for diabetics. It is important for diabetics to exercise everyday to keep their blood sugar levels in control. Irrespective of the weather, you need to stick to it. So, even if it is biting cold outside, you must not give your daily dose of physical activity a miss. But, there are a host of precautions that you need to keep in mind.

Exercising during the cold weather comes with its own share of risks for the diabetics. Since the cold weather reduces blood circulation in the body, it increases the risk of frostbite. Exercising in wet weather can also lead to blisters and abrasions in the feet. Since diabetics are susceptible to problems in the feet already, this can mean added trouble.

However, a few simple things can offer regular exercise without making them to deal with extreme cold. Here are a few tips:

* Start walking at a mall. Sounds strange? Malls offer you the perfect ambience for walking. They have a controlled climate and give you all the comfort that you need to walk during winters. And in case, you get tired, you can always sit down and grab a quick snack. Head to a mall on weekday mornings or during the early hours so that you can enjoy an uninterrupted walk.

* Swimming is another great way to stay physically active during the winter season. A dip in a hot water pool will not just help you get your regular exercise but also offer ample relaxation.

* Work out at a health club. Health clubs allow you to comfortably exercise indoors. So, you do not have to struggle with the biting cold. These clubs offer you everything from Pilates to yoga to cardiovascular exercise. Thus, you can choose any exercising regime that you think best meets your needs.

* Exercising at home is also a great idea. You get to stay physically active and that too at the comfort of your own home.

* Do the household chores yourself. There are several household chores such as cleaning, dusting, mopping, laundry and many more than can help you stay active. Doing them yourself will ensure that you get your regular exercise and save money too.

* Try exercise videos. If you are looking for a complete workout, then exercise videos are a great option. Follow them and keep yourself going.

Keeping your blood sugar levels in control during the winter season is not that difficult. Just follow the above mentioned tips and the cold will not be a reason for a spike in blood sugar levels.
